The Functions of Books in Early Education

It is believed that children who attended pre-school can enjoy better academic achievement when they finally enter into formal training. And, the reason for this amazing development is books. As it happens, activities such as storytelling and reading can promote language and literacy skills. When supported with constant communication, they will surely excel in class. It is also through the acquired abilities that building blocks for reading and writing will be established. How is this possible?

First, children will be able to equip themselves with a significant amount of vocabulary. Through it, their listening and comprehension skills will be developed, and then, improved. Their capacity to retain information can also be enhanced.

Second, it promotes awareness of the many literary works available in the library. This is especially true if toddlers are introduced to books that have colourful and vivid images. With much exposure, preschoolers will begin to enjoy stories.

Third, they gain better understanding of the letters and words they are reading. This development is important when they finally enter academic institutions, such as grammar schools, where they are required to construct grammatically correct sentences together.

Finally, being aware of the existence of books will enable toddlers to know how to handle each page so it will be useful for a long time.
